Hell-Heaven (Piekło-Niebo), a theatrical performance (not only) for children, as a utopian vision of civil society

Subject and Keywords:

children’s play   (everyday) democracy   utopia   education for democracy   civic education

Abstract:

Most children’s stories contain some elements of utopia and vision of a perfect world. The most contemporary ones include visions of a democratic world, thus becoming tools useful in the process of educating children about democracy and bringing them up to democracy. This text contains an interpretation of the theatrical performance Hell-Heaven (Piekło-Niebo), from the repertoire of the Wroclaw Puppet Theatre, in which I find some ideal concepts of democracy (but rather the everyday democracy than political one) and a democrat. Can a theatrical performance, presenting a world where democratic relations are possible even with God, fulfil the role of an educational-utopian cultural project? In my article I try to find an answer to this question.
