  In its history, the University of Lviv was the most important scientific facility in the region, in certain periods radiating to all of Europe. In the monography covering three volumes, consisting of problem-focused articles in the area of broadly understood humanities, the significance of the University of Lviv is described as a scientific & research, educational, culture-building and nation-building institution through the prism of distinguished humanists, including historians, philologists, philosophers and theologists. The main directions of development within a given field are characterized, covering issues raised and applied research methods, as well as scientific & educational achievements of the Lviv academic environment starting from establishment of the school until 1946. The Lviv humanities are presented in a comprehensive way following chronological order which allows tracing of the evolutionary nature of individual fields over the centuries. The source base for individual problem-focused articles includes rich archive resources not used before now within such a broad scope. Such an approach not only gives the reader a unique opportunity to familiarize themselves with the literature for the given topic, but also creates an exceptional opportunity to access the source itself. Apart from links provided in individual problem-focused articles, after the third volume of the monography, comprehensive interactive inventories of archive units are added in the form of two annexes: Inventory description 5: Personnel issues of the group of professors and clerks constituting a part of Fonds 26: Jan Kazimierz University in Lviv which is located in the State Archives of the Lviv Oblast (Дepжaвний apxiв Львiвcькoї oблacтi ─ DALO); Inventory description 1: Personnel issues of the employees as a part of Fonds P-119: Ivan Franko National University of Lviv which is in the Archives of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv (Архiв Львiвcькoгo нaціoнaльнoгo унівepcитeту iмeнi Івaнa Фpaнкa ─ ALNUIF).

  W swojej historii Uniwersytet Lwowski był najważniejszą dla regionu placówką naukową, promieniującą w niektórych okresach na całą Europę. W trzytomowej monografii, na którą składają się artykuły problemowe z zakresu szeroko pojętej humanistyki opisano znaczenie Uniwersytetu Lwowskiego jako instytucji naukowo-badawczej, edukacyjnej, kulturotwórczej i narodotwórczej przez pryzmat wybitnych humanistów, m.in. historyków, filologów, filozofów oraz teologów. Scharakteryzowano główne kierunki rozwoju w obrębie danej dyscypliny m.in. podejmowane tematy i stosowane metody badawcze, a także osiągnięcia naukowo-edukacyjne lwowskiego środowiska uniwersyteckiego od początku powstania uczelni do 1946 roku. Zaprezentowano humanistykę lwowską w sposób całościowy w sensie chronologicznym, co pozwoli prześledzić na przestrzeni wieków ewolucyjność poszczególnych dyscyplin. Bazą źródłową poszczególnych artykułów problemowych są bogate zasoby archiwalne dotychczas niewykorzystywane w tak szerokim zakresie. Takie podejście daje czytelnikowi niepowtarzalną możliwość nie tylko zapoznania się z opracowaniem danego zagadnienia, ale stwarza wyjątkową okazję kontaktu z samym źródłem. Oprócz linków podanych w poszczególnych artykułach problemowych po tomie trzecim monografii zamieszczono w formie dwóch aneksów całościowe interaktywne inwentarze jednostek archiwalnych: Inwentarz opisu 5: Sprawy personalne grona profesorskiego i urzędników stanowiący część Zespołu 26: Uniwersytet Jana Kazimierza we Lwowie, który znajduje się Państwowym Archiwum Obwodu Lwowskiego (ukr.
