The legal position of the Maori minority in New Zealand has been shaped through customary law along with Maori beliefs. Both of these sources have a significant role in the New Zealand legal system. Moreover, none of the legislative acts or actions made by government in Wellington cannot be contrary to the order of tikanga Māori. Without a doubt, the Maori civilization is an integral part of the New Zealand culture, including the legal culture of the bilingual country of Aotearoa. Government and the Maori representatives seek compromise through finding common ground in the draft and interpretation of legal norms. The New Zealand officials and politicians, in consultation with the Maori chiefs establish acts focusing on convergent values of both nations. Thus, the legal position of the Maori minority is established in both written and customary law. This proves the high legal culture of New Zealand, mostly conflict-free finding solutions to social problems, as well as showing respect on every opportunity for the autochthon and their rich heritage
