Abstract:

The aim of this article is to present the legal status of patroiokos on the ground of the Gortyn Code. Patroiokos was a heiress of family estate that had no father or brother conceived from the same father, whom a legislator appointed a husband from the closest member of her family. The Gortyn legislator took a great care to this problem. Legal norms concerning patroiokos should be divided into two main parts: regulations concerning adoption of the candidate for husband and rules of estate management
