Abstract:

The aim of the article is to present the specificity of identity and social functioning of transsexual people in Poland. Taking under consideration the transsexualism we should emphasize that this phenomenon is not new, however still remains the surprise in the public sphere. Transsexualism, on the basis of the social sciences and humanities more broadly, is taken relatively rare. Medicine and law definitely more often taking this phenomenon under consideration. Therefore, in this paper, based on my research, the phenomenon will be discussed with regard strong social context. An attempt will be described transsexual identity and social functioning of transsexual people in conditions of exclusion.  

Celem artykułu jest przybliżenie specyfiki tożsamości oraz funkcjonowania społecznego osób transseksualnych w Polsce. Podejmując się rozważań dotyczących transseksualizmu należy podkreślić, iż nie jest to zjawisko nowe, jednakże w opinii publicznej wciąż budzące zaskoczenie. Transseksualizm na gruncie nauk społecznych jest ciągle tematyką stosunkowo rzadko poruszaną. Problematykę transseksualizmu zazwyczaj podejmują takie nauki, jak medycyna i prawo, dlatego też w niniejszym artykule zjawisko to, w oparciu o przeprowadzone badania, zostanie omówione z uwzględnieniem społecznego kontekstu. Podjęta zostanie próba opisu wybranych elementów transseksualnej tożsamości oraz funkcjonowania społecznego osób transseksualnych.
