Tadeusz Antoni Bigo (1894-1975). The way to university professorial chair in Wrocław

Abstract:

T. Bigo was born on 30th March 1894. After passing school-leaving exams in his hometown, he studied at Faculties of Law in Cracow and Vienna. On 5th April 1919 he became Doctor of Juristic Science. At the beginning he worked for the Polish public service and local government. In 1922 he started to work at the Faculty of Law and Political Skills at the University of Lviv. There, on 15th June 1928 he was given veniam legendi in administrative law. On 1st September 1939 he was nominated to the professorial chair.During the Second World War he lived in Lviv, Warsaw and Cracow. In 1945 he was the leading candidate for the Faculty of Administrative Law in Cracow, but he was also given an offer to work in Wrocław, which he accepted. During the interwar period he was one of the best specialist in the area of knowledge concerning local governments. In 1945 he established Wrocław’s school of administrative law. The University of Wrocław decided to honour him by awarding him a honorary doctorate. Unfortunately, T. Bigo died on 1st of September 1975.
