The twentieth century was one of an accelerated development of international cooperation on solving the problem of refugees. This cooperation has resulted, on the one hand, in the process of institutionalisation manifested in the establishment of various bodies of international organisations that provide support to refugees and undertake actions to develop a permanent solution to the problem, whereas on the other, in the codification of international law, within which a universal definition of a refugee has been proposed. This article discusses the most significant actions undertaken by international organisations to solve this problem. For reasons of a considerable number of documents of international law and a multitude of institutions, given also the narrow compass of this work, the article presents only the selected documents and institutions of the most significant government organisations that provide support to refugees at international level.
