Abstract:

The article analyzes the acts of robbery on the high seas with particular emphasis on maritime piracy. It also shows the definition and legal issues, scale and scope of maritime piracy in the modern world, along with a breakdown of its regional variations and types. Furthermore an attempt was made to analyze the initiatives undertaken by international governmental organizations such as the United Nations, NATO, the European Union, the Association of South-East Asian Nations, the African Union and the Arab League in preventing and combating maritime piracy in the modern world.
