This doctoral dissertation centres around the subject of theatrical critique in Schlesische Provinzialblätter – one of the most important Silesian magazines at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. Due to its status, wide circulation, position on the press market and the role of the feature articles in it, the aforementioned monthly may be regarded as representative for theatrical critique in magazine publishing in Silesia during the period of 1785-1820. The analysis of articles during that time, which were mainly devoted to current theatrical events in Wroclaw, allows the filling of a gap which constituted critique in Silesian magazines. (Theatrical) critique in representative dailies of the pre-March Revolution period has already been examined.
The results of the doctoral dissertation complement research conducted so far on the cultural feature articles in Silesian periodicals and considerably enhance the knowledge about the development of the genre at the turn of Enlightenment and the greater part of Romanticism.
