Abstract:

The aim of this article is to make an overview of the literature on the evolution and generations of electronic government, considering also the conceptualization proposed by international organizations as well as expert institutions. Although it seems that the most popular are the maturity models of eGovernment 1.0, eGovernment 2.0, eGovernment 3.0 and even eGovernment 4.0 in recent times, it is also important to analyze the alternative conceptualizations that reflect the stages of (e-)government’s development and stick to the complex and multidimensional nature of public administration.
