Abstract:

In this paper the author presents relatively new phenomenon of the internet memes in the scope of their relevance in view of the Polish copyright law. In relation to law regulations internet memes raise many interpretative doubts. So far, the subject has not been a matter of a separate analysis regarding copyright law. For the time being, one cannot find such term in judicature. In particular, the subject of analysis is the term, nature and structure of internet memes along with their potential classification as a work in view of the Polish copyright law. This paper raises problematic aspects of multifaceted nature of internet memes as a work. The author demonstrates results of granting internet memes a copyright protection, focusing on consequences of the amended regulation on travesty, pastiche and caricature.
