The search for the answer to the question ‘who am I’ begins with the identification with persons of importance who come from the closest circles of reference. From the study carried out among 364 students of pedagogy we learn that for the majority of respondents family home is fundamental in the identity formation. The atmosphere of the family home, the relations with parents, siblings, grandmothers and grandfathers, as well as those with extended family (aunts, uncles, cousins etc.) are the factors which, according to the respondents, have influenced the process of their identity formation to a large extent. The knowledge of family history and origins, the awareness of one’s own heritage with the acceptance of familial qualities and critical view of the defects forms an authentic and profound basis for identity formation.}, title={Family home as the space of identity formation}, keywords={family home, identity, persons of importance, social environment}, }
