 abstract={The purpose of this work is to present pre-school educational institutions (kindergartens and shelters), their numbers, manner of establishment, organization, tasks, and forms of activity (also in relation to the families of their pupils), against the background of the ethnic structure of Łódź, which was very diverse at that time. The first date (1924) is the date of establishment of the first shelter initiated by the city (for Polish children) which, apart from tasks relatedsolely to providing care, was also supposed to perform an educational function.},
