The main thesis of the text is the observation that SF authors are reluctant to take upand develop educational themes. As a rule, the SF creators are more interested in the idea of bringing artificial life into the world and the moral and practical consequences of doing so. The lack of interest in educational themes in SF narratives also seems to be closely connected with the broader crisis of the ideaof school and education in contemporary popular culture. If school appears in SF works it is most often in anti-utopian contexts, as an oppressive institution that is a part of authoritarian or totalitarian power. More often we can witness ruthless indoctrination and disciplining rather than teaching. The article also discusses the motifs of parenting and upbringing in selected recent SF series and films.}, type={text}, doi={10.34616/149611}, keywords={education, science fiction, authoritarianism}, }
