The crisis reached its peak in the period 2008 – 2009.Although the onset of the crisis was in the US market, the financial meltdown has spread abruptly and become a worldwide phenomenon. The world financial crisis has brought about extensivechanges in various areas. Consequently questions can be asked about its influence on the international relations. The analysis focuses on the relations between major world powers.Particularly, the issue of the hegemonic position of the US was examined, as well as a possibility ofreplacing the US as a hegemon by another great power. To achieve this goal the author employed theories of G. Modelski, I. Wallerstein, A.F.K Organski as well as (to lesser extent) theories of Ch.Kindleberger, M. Olson, P. Kennedy and remarks of ancient historians (Herodotus and Thucydides).}, }
