Attempts were made to answer the question whether gnosis, perceived by the American researcher as the source of the poli tical crisis of modernity, is only its distortion or a natural consequence of the Christian world view. To this end, consideration of the analysis of the basic philosophy of Voegelin, headed by the notion of the leap in existence, and the descriptions that constituted Christianity, as well as the set of symbols that is descriptive of this religion.
