This change had large impact on both Chinese history and development of Confucianism. Tu Wei-minng, contemporary philosopher and member of the third generation of New Confucianism, recognizes importance of this change. He considers this as a result of long process. In his opinion Confucianism widespread in Han dynasty court was no longer Confucianism of Confucius and Mencius. At the same time Tu Wei-ming acknowledges many Confucian intellectuals of this period. He recognizes also Confucian influence on imperial state.
