 abstract={The article is devoted to the status of the European Central Bank in the European System of Central Banks. The author discusses the composition and competences of the European Central Bank, its functions and tasks, internal decision-making bodies, and the mode of procedure. Moreover, the links of the European Central Banks with the system of national central banks is also shown, including the current status of the National Bank of Poland and constitutional changes necessary in Poland in order to adopt the euro in the future.},
