The Russian Federation participated or supported one of the parties in almost every conflict in this region. The author presents the arguments in favor of the thesis that such Russia’s actions are not of an economic but a political nature. The goal of such actions is the realisation of Russia’s desire to strengthen its political position in the neighboring countries, using tools which are unacceptable in the majority of countries in the world. The main aim of this article is to analyze the economic of the Eastern regions of Ukraine, especially the territories covered by the military conflict. The author presents the economic importance of these regions for the economy of Ukraine through the analysis of the main macroeconomic indicators and government expenditures aimed at the development of this region.
