abstract={This monograph is another volume dedicated to the elections to the regional assemblies in Poland, developed by a nationwide research team. The publication is unique as it analyzes the beginnings of the functioning of regional self-governments after the administrative reform of 1999 and the results of the first two elections in 1998 and 2002. For the authors, this is an important supplement to the research gap, which will allow for more general conclusions regarding competition at the regional level. The book consists of 19 chapters. The first two, authored by Kamil Glinka and Robert Alberski, introduce the topic of the 1999 self-government reform, the role and tasks of regional self-governments, and the changing electoral rules in the years 1998-2002. The subsequent chapters contain analyses of the situation in individual voivodeships, considering the specifics of regional political scenes, the characteristics of the main participants in the competition, and the election results in 1998 and 2002. The final chapter is dedicated to the analysis of the political consequences of the elections to the regional assemblies of the first and second terms.},
