However there are very few articles and researches discussing application of findings from the field of behavioural economics to the real estate market. If behavioural economics mechanisms work well in many markets, they should also have an impact on consumers’ decision-making in the real estate market. The goal of this article is to examine cognitive biases and their impact on consumers’ behaviour and decision-making in the real estate market in Poland and to present results of primary research on apartment purchase decisions under the influence of heuristics. The article was based on primary and secondary research on cognitive biases and characteristics of the real estate market in Poland. Of the heuristics examined, the mental availability heuristic had the greatest impact on purchase decisions. The anchor heuristic and then the representativeness heuristic showed a slightly smaller impact.
