abstract={The author’s object is to present the reflections of selected medieval authors on the right to use force (ius ad bellum). The problem of presenting the idea of just war in the thought of medieval authors is crucial for understanding the political philosophy and ethics of that period. The Middle Ages, with the strong influence of Christianity, shaped values, social norms, and world-view, and thinkers of that time tried to reconcile ethical principles with political reality, including the necessity of warfare. The concept of just war was an attempt to find moral justifications for warfare, which was inevitable in those realities. Thinkers sought to establish conditions that would make war compatible with Christian ethics. Decisions about war were considered morally justified when they were made in accordance with moral and legal norms.},
