To prepare the ground for my project of reflective bioethics, in the beginning I examine historically and philosophically the concept of dignity. The first chapter includes consideration, based on the historical evidence, how dignity has been understood. Highlighting the differences between the understanding of dignity as possession, value, and virtue (to be precise: something close to virtue) belong to the main aims of the dissertation. The central research thesis of the dissertation is to develop the notion of dignity into its interpretation as a disposition. As an impermanent disposition, dignity is a state of perseverance when we give place to another. Also, this disposition opposes to futility and persistence (understood as a negative phenomena in medical care) in the moral response to loss and deficiency. In the second and third chapter, additional tasks to realize the thesis are presented: to develop research tools on the basis of the distinction between significance and insignificance; to propose a method of dissonance, to identify appropriate, needed moral attitudes and practices in medical care. I provide an overview of the current state of bioethical research, trying to contribute to the interdisciplinary field my own project of reflective bioethics. It is presented in details in the third chapter.}, title={Godność jako dyspozycja.
