 abstract={Despite the initial concern over the plausibility of weakening the NATO, inter alia by overlapping its competences and constraining the USA’s position in Europe, Poland has deemed the European Union the third pillar of its security (the second external pillar). However, clear aspiration to expand its capabilities in the realm of emergency response operations and defence policy implementation have not been fully accomplished so far. Thereby the EU and its capacity in the field of “hard” security continue to be a great unknown. Looking at this issue from Warsaw’s point of view, it becomes more and more crucial to find out whether the European Union has any prospects for development as a structure of the European security.},
